In the most recent edition of the CSA 282-15, fuel quality requirements are simplified to state that the fuel shall meet the manufacturers specifications. Diesel generator manufacturers specify ISO Standard 18/16/13 quality fuel for diesel engines. Manufacturers of High Pressure Common Rail fuel injection systems specify ISO Standard 12/9/6. The use of fuel other than that specified by the manufacturer – as stated in the CSA 282-15, leads to the following:
- Poor operation of the engine
- Failure to start
- Poor transient performance
- Shorter engine life
- Inability to carry load
