The Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems notes that biodiesel can accelerate the degradation of the diesel fuel if stored for longer than 6 months. Biodiesel blends up to B5 (ASTM D 975) have much shorter shelf lives than conventional ULSD and can accelerate degradation processes, endangering the entire diesel fuel supply. Fuel suppliers are required to disclose biodiesel delivery greater than B4.

Regular use cleans and conditions rotary & piston fuel pumps, injectors, piston rings and seals, dissolves gum and varnish deposits and disposes of water contamination in fuel.
